‘Deadpool 2:’ Actress Shortlist for Domino Role Revealed

Oct 27th, 2016       Filed in: News       Comments: 0

Superhero landing! Deadpool 2 is very much happening, and things are moving a little faster than the perpetually-stuck-in-development-hell original film. That arrived earlier this year and surpassed all box-office expectations, so we now have casting news on Domino, a key female role.

According to Collider, there is a shortlist of ten actresses who could be starring opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. That shortlist features (deep breath): Lizzy Caplan, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Sienna Miller, Sofia Boutella, Stephanie Sigman, Sylvia Hoeks, Mackenzie Davis, Ruby Rose, Eve Hewson, and Kelly Rohrbach. All are apparently ‘testing’ for the role.

In the original Marvel comics, Domino is a frequent member of the X-Force team, where she often joins forces with Deadpool and Cable. (Cable is already confirmed for the sequel, as hinted at by that Ferris Bueller-esque post-credits sequence, though he is yet to be cast.)

There’s no official word yet on whether the original film’s female lead, Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa, will be back second time around, or whether they will stay true to the comics by sending her into superhero territory as her Copycat alter ego.

Still, we do definitely know that Reynolds will be slipping back into the red spandex, that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will be writing the screenplay again, and that filming is due to start early next year, looking at a probable 2018 release date.

Charlie Hunnam Drama ‘The Lost City of Z’ Lands April 2017 Release Date

Oct 15th, 2016       Filed in: News ,The Lost City of Z       Comments: 0

Produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B, the Amazon Studios/Bleecker Street film makes its world premiere Saturday at the New York Film Festival, where it’s the closing-night movie.

Amazon Studios and Bleecker Street have settled on a release date for the Charlie Hunnam starrer The Lost City of Z.

The film, directed by James Gray, will open in select theaters on April 21, 2017, and then expand. News of the release date comes on the eve of the movie’s world premiere at the 2016 New York Film Festival, where it’s the closing-night movie.

Amazon’s original-movie division beat out other rivals in picking up rights to The Lost City of Z in September. It then partnered with Andrew Karpen’s Bleecker Street on the movie’s theatrical rollout. Amazon’s Bob Berney will spearhead the marketing and distribution of The Lost City of Z alongside the Bleecker Street team.

The film, which also stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Angus Macfadyen, is produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B.

Set in 1925 and based on David Grann’s best-selling book of the same name, the true-life drama centers on British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett (Hunnam), who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon. Gray penned the adapted script.

Sierra/Affinity is repping the film internationally.

Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner produced Lost City of Z via Plan B alongside Dale Armin Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Executive producers include Marc Butan and Mark Huffam.

Ben Affleck’s ‘Live by Night’ Gets Awards-Season Release Date

Oct 14th, 2016       Filed in: Live by Night ,News       Comments: 0

Warner Bros. has set a Dec. 25 limited release date for Ben Affleck’s “Live by Night” — placing the period crime drama in possible awards contention.

“Live by Night,” Affleck’s first directorial effort since “Argo,” will expand into wide release on Jan. 13 as previously announced.

The film is based on Dennis Lehane’s Prohibition-era crime novel and stars Affleck, Sienna Miller, Chris Messina, Zoe Saldana, Chris Cooper, and Elle Fanning. Affleck directed from his own adapted script.

Shooting began in October in Georgia.

Affleck plays the son of a Boston police captain who becomes a bootlegger and rum-runner in Florida during the ’20s. Affleck is producing through his Pearl Street banner along with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson through their Appian Way company. Jennifer Todd is also producing.

Warner Bros. originally acquired the rights to Lehane’s novel in 2012 with the intention of DiCaprio starring.

The original release date was to be Dec. 25, 2015, with Warner pushing back the opening twice.
